So Autumn is now upon us! Last Sunday I was sat outside in the glorious sunshine and this week all it seems to have done is rain. Boo!! To brighten up my day a little I thought i'd try a cheeky little squirrel design.
The design consists of a cheeky cartoon style squirrel on my thumb nail, a textured acorn on my ring finger and autumn coloured leaves on the index, middle and little finger.
I've done a step by step tutorial should you want to give it a go yourself. If you do, make sure to send me your pictures! You can tweet them to me @rocket_nails
Squirrel and Acorn Tutorial:
For the base I used OPI 'Jade is the new black'.
For the acorn I used Barry M gold foil polish. But you could always use a light brown as opposed to gold if you prefer. The shape is basically a semi-circle with a little nib on the end. I also added a white highlight on the side.
Next is the top of the acorn. For this you need a darker brown. Again it's a semi circle shape (slightly larger than the bottom half of the acorn) with a little line on top for a stalk. Whilst the paint was still tacky I texturised the darker brown using a dotter (cocktail stick would also work).
For the cheeky little squirrel you will need a dark brown, light brown, black and white. The basic shape is two oval shapes for the head and body and a thick to thin backwards 'S' shape for the tail. Don't forget 2 little triangles for the ears!
Following that we want to add some definition to him. Using the lighter brown shade paint the bottom half of the head oval with another oval length ways. Add a smaller oval to the body, smaller triangles to the ears and following the shape paint one side of the tail. Using your white, paint two ovals above the lighter brown on the head for the eyes.
Next step is to add the details. Two small black dots in the centre of the white ovals for eyes, a little black nose between the eyes and a very happy smiley grin! I also added two big white teeth.
To finish off the design I painted small leaf shapes at the bottom of the plain nails using a green glitter and orangey-brown glitter polish.
And there you have it!!!
Happy painting!
